The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says its all systems go for New Year Celebrations in the Metro.
The safety of all has been identified as the pillar of this year's planning and preparations.
A Spokesperson for the Metro Mthubanzi Mniki says they teamwork between Beach office staff, the Metro police, SAPS, Municipal Security Staff, ward councillors and traffic officials will continue.
He says public order police will be working with the Metro police and will be deployed for 24 hours patrolling the beach areas.
A Child tagging system will be introduced to make sure that lost children are reunited with their parents.
Drinking and driving and drinking and walking will be dealt with severely.
All beaches will be manned by lifeguards
Municipal Public Health will work 24 hours dealing with refuse collection and will be keeping all beaches clean
Traffic will focus on traffic congestion and general road traffic transgressions.
Roadblocks will also be set up across Nelson Mandela Bay focusing on all the routes leading to all the beach areas.
Patrols and traffic control will also be done along the freeways and intersections.
Facilities will be maintained with plumbers always on standby to fix any problem.
All beaches will have cleaning staff making sure showers, toilets and other areas are clean.
Municipal Fire and Emergency will be on alert during this period with some moving around all beach areas to make sure that people only make fires where they are allowed to do so.
Nelson Mandela Bay is expecting 80 000 people in Wells Estate 60 000 in Kings Beach, 40 000 in Hobie and 15 000 in Humewood. They will also be a satellite office in Wells Estate servicing St George's, Blue Water Bay, New Brighton Beach and another VOC focusing on Hobie, Humewood, Kings, Pollock and other beaches in that area.
Mniki says underage drinking is a serious concern for the metro and he asked people to celebrate responsibly.
The municipality has organised entertainment in St George's and Hobie Beach where music and fireworks entertainment will be part of the entertainment.
Beach view resort is still closed, people are not allowed to visit and use the facility.
