The Nelson Mandela Bay Muncipality has cautioned against the collection of shellfish from some coastal areas around the Metro.
This follows the recent discolouration (red sea water) of the sea water in some areas of the coast and the susbsequent tests and consultations with experts.
Municipality spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, says they can't confirm whether fish or shellfish consumed from the affected areas are toxic or not.
He says that preliminary results from samples collected have identified 8 species of dinoflagellates, that might be the cause of the change in the water colour.
Mniki says there's no need to panic and any new developments will be communicated via the media.
