The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has condemned the incident where one of its employees allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, who also works for the Metro.

Twenty-eight-year-old Azikiwe Dondashe, who works as an HR administrator at the Municipality, appeared in the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He is being charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The alleged incident took place in the early hours of Sunday.

Metro Spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, says they condemn the incident but if the allegations are found to be true, the law must take its course.

He says if found guilty of the offence the Metro would not be proud of such an employee.

Dondashe is out on bail of R500.

The matter was postponed until the 22nd of August for further investigation.
