NMBM Councillors to report to PE police

Two ANC councillors, believed to have been involved in the violence at a Council meeting in Port Elizabeth last week, during which a shot was fired, and a DA and ANC councillor assaulted, have been instructed to report to Humewood police station.

Police captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg confirmed that two councillors had been told to hand themselves in, in which case they would be taken to court to face charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Last week, the ANC's leader in Council, Biks Ndoni said the bone of contention had been the manner in which the public participation programme related to the Municipality's Integrated Development Plan was followed by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality three weeks ago.

He said the ANC caucus would be seeking an urgent meeting with the DA-led coalition so that a platform for resolving tensions and disputes was agreed upon.
