Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe has announced that Sizwe Mvunelwa will take over from Mandla George as the Metro's Acting City Manager.
Lobishe made this announcement at the post-council briefing following the council meeting that was held on Thursday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
George's six-month tenure ended on 15 January.
The former acting city manager resumed office after being seconded by the provincial Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs following the suspension of Noxolo Nqwazi who faces fraud charges in court along with several other co-accused.
On Friday Lobishe said there was no room to extend George's contract as he is still employed at the Competitions Commission and his move to the city was an inter-governmental agreement.
On Mvunelwa, who was the executive director for Public Health in the Metro, Lobishe said he would be acting in the position for the next three months.
"We are still awaiting feedback from the Department of Co-operative Governance. Should they recommend someone else, that person will take office," Lobishe added.
Meanwhile, the council previously resolved that George should start the settlement agreement negotiations with Nqwazi while consulting the National Treasury.
Nqwazi was suspended in 2023 for failing to prevent irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure when the city reached a settlement agreement with Anele Qaba
On Friday, Lobishe said another council meeting will be called next week to provide an update on the progress of negotiations with the National Treasury.
