Workers from Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's Waste Division have 'laid waste' to a section of Govan Mbeki Avenue.
The section between Russel Road and Evatt Street has been blocked off by municipal refuse trucks which were parked at key intersections and abandonded.
About 100 workers were seen gathered in front of the Lillian Diedericks Municipal Building which is closed along with another municipal building across the road.
Municipality spokesperson, Roland Williams, says their labour relations department are still trying to ascertain what the workers grievances are.
He says there are proper channels to address these issues.
"Our labour relations office is attempting to address whatever those issues are. However, we have arranged for specialised towing vehicles to come and take all those vehicles away," he said.
Williams emphasised that there are channels for workers to address their grievances.
There was no immediate comment from the SA Municipal Workers Union at the time of writing.
