NMB Metro down to three supply dams

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality reports that it continues to experience intermittent water supply disruptions due to ongoing drought conditions.

The lower than average rainfall and high water consumption has seen one of the largest supply dams of the Metro - the Impofu - dropping below water extraction levels at 16.47%.

This low level has caused a system deficit of 35 Million litres of water in the integrated supply system of the Metro.

In order to continue to sustainably supply water to all consumers, the public at large is encouraged to play their part and reduce consumption significantly.

The current daily consumption of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is 289 million litres and the Municipality says in a statement that daily consumption ideally needs to be around 250 million litres.

As a short term intervention, the Metro continues to augment the system with additional water from different dam sources.

A Municipal delegation led by Executive Mayor Mongameli Bobani is planning an oversight visit to the Impofu and other dams in the system on Thursday.
