NMB launches Safety and Security Festive Season

The head of Safety and Security John Best on Monday launched the Summer Season Safety programme at Wells Estate beach which is to make sure that the beaches of the Nelson Mandela Bay remain safe throughout the festive season.

The initiative is a joined collaboration between the Metro Police and South African Police Services.

Best said the plan, which had already started last week and will play out until January 2017, focusing on the three blue flags, Wells Estate and New Brighton Beaches.

He added they will have red letter days, which include December 16 and December 31 where they, together with the SAPS, will have a multi discipline approach to ensure the safety of beaches.

The metro police so far have looked for illegal fires on the beaches, confiscated alcohol and found unregistered cars.

He said they have 45 newly appointed Metro police that will be patrolling the beaches and ensuring safety for residents and visitors of the bay.
