The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said it will focus its forensic investigations on multi- million rand major contracts, which it believed could be irregular.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, said the forensic investigations formed part the municipality's promise to root out corruption.
Trollip said the three contracts identified stood out as cases of major concern with serious allegations of irregularity, impropriety and possible corruption.
He said the first contract is media and communications tender with Mohlaleng Media worth R20 million, the second a contract worth R21.7 million with the City of Champions and the third, Milongani eco consulting firm.
Milongo Eco Consulting falls under the Public Health Directorate which is headed by the Deputy Mayor, Mongameli Bobani.
"There are allegations of massive irregularities with invoices, pricing structure, duplicate VAT charges and inflations of contract values. We have appointed a company to do forensic investigations on all those invoices that were paid to Milongani Eco Consulting," Trollip said.
"Since I asked the City Manager to put a stop all transaction to Milongani, there have been transactions that have been processed since then. They were processed shortly after the R15 million adjustments budget allocations to the Department of Public Health to fight the War On Waste," Trollip added.
Trollip said when he questioned around the invoices and transactions, some of the invoices that were prepared were withdrawn and that has "given rise to this investigation, not only the irregularities but the actions that have transpired since the identifications since the identifications of the irregularities."
Bobani called out Trollip in an email he sent to media accusing him of side-lining him, as he was not consulted about the action against people in the directorate he heads.
