Nelson Mandela Bay fire-fighters were back in action Thursday attending to no less than nine bush fires across the Metro.
Authorities said most fire crews are out attending grass fires in areas like Sundridge Park, Lower Seaview Road and Sherwood, which were said to be under control.
A vehicle has also been dispatched to the Rocklands area.
Metro fire-fighters have been battling runway fires since Tuesday afternoon when a fire which broke out in the areas of Theescombe and Chelsea, with the only real casualty a thatched-roof house which was destroyed in the blaze.
Many other properties in the area and also in Kamma Heights escaped unscathed as the fire raced up to the walls and boundaries of several properties.
Meanwhile, the Department of Environmental Affairs' said its Working on Fire programme has had a busy week.
This, as it continued to provide wildland firefighting assistance to fire authorities, Fire Protection Associations and landowners in the Western and Eastern Cape.
In a statement Wednesday the Department said more than 200 fire fighters including fire- fighting aircraft have been kept busy at multiple fires in Pinehaven, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Baviaanskloof and Port Elizabeth.
