NMB established JOC at Woodridge entrance

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Fire and Emergency Unit has established a Joint Operations Control Centre at the Woodridge School Entrance.

"The team on site is pleased to share that the farming community and VWSA have joined in to assist with the resources they have (tractors, water tankers and general fire-fighting tools) under the guidance and command of NMBM Fire and Emergency," NMB said in a statement Saturday.

“We can confirm for now that Woodridge school is safe. No injuries or damage to property has been confirmed as yet,” said Municipality spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki.

“Strong winds continue to make conditions difficult for the teams on site. The situation is closely monitored with the primary objective to save lives and property,” he said.

Mniki said any drastic change in the tools or strategies being used will be communicated to the media immediately.

“General public is again requested not to come to the fire areas as this poses danger to them and cause confusion and disruption of the teams on site,” Mniki said.

“Other fires in other areas remain under control,” he added.
