The level of Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams continues to drop and is now at an alarming 15.58% of total combined capacity.
The latest figures come on the back of a warning by SA weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson on Monday that the rainfall of between 10 and 23 millimetres measured in the Langkloof a day earlier would make no difference to the dire water crisis the Metro finds itself.
According to the latest dam-readings released by the Municipality, the Metro’s main supply dam, the Kouga, is now at an all-time low of 6.04%.
The Gamtoos Irrigation Board cautioned recently that it would not be able to extract water from the Kouga for its irrigation farmers should it drop to 3.3% of capacity.
Nelson Mandela Bay’s second-largest supply dam, the Impofu, is at 15.8% and the Churchill is at 39.59%.
The smaller Loerie dam, which is, in essence, a feeder dam, is at 55.55% of capacity.
The Groendal dam which serves the Kariega/Uitenhage area is at 33.72% of capacity.
