EFF regional chairperson in Gqeberha Khanya Ngqisha and GOOD councillor Lawrence Troon could soon square off in court on an R800 000 defamation lawsuit.
Ngqisha has sought legal advice against Troon following alleged "defamatory" statements made against him during a television interview.
In a statement released by the EFF, the party says Troon claimed that Ngqisha had solicited a R1 million bribe for an item to be passed in council.
"He went on a public platform and stated that I received a bribe of R1 million. He also went on Facebook and tagged about 98 people, stating that as fact.
"To clear my name from these false allegations, I'm taking him to court. I want R800 000 and a public apology in the same manner he made these damning allegations.
"I will be the first person to teach him a lesson.
"You can't just loosely speak about individuals and defame their character when people are honestly building their character."
No sooner did Ngqisha encourage Troon to lay a charge with the police, Troon on Monday registered two cases of fraud at the Humewood police station.
Troon said the allegations stem from an alleged bribe for an item to be passed in council and students who were wrongfully paid monies through the Extended Public Works Programme.
He said the students who received payment are all allegedly members of the EFF.
Regarding the pending legal action, Troon said: "With regards to the lawyer's letter, I have only seen it on social media. It was never delivered to me personally."
Troon further referenced a television interview in which Ngqisha had according to him been present.
He said during the interview, that Ngqisha did not refute any of his allegations but tried to belittle him instead.
"One thing I can tell you is that this guy is in deep trouble.
"We are going to make sure that he is exposed for the person that he really is," Troon added.
