The Nkandla report by Police Minister Nathi Nhleko was once again in the spotlight on Monday.
This, when DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, addressed supporters in Uitenhage during his Freedom, Fairness and Opportunity tour to Nelson Mandela Bay.
He also addressed supporters at the West End Community Centre before going on a walk-about at Njoli Taxi Rank in Kwazakhele, Port Elizabeth.
In a fiery address to supporters in Market Square in Uitenhage, Maimane, said it was wrong that one person could stay in a house of R250 million while many South Africans don't have a place to stay.
Maimane said even the cattle at President Zuma's Nkandla homestead live better than many South Africans.
"You see if you and I took money that does not belong to us and build ourselves a nice house people would nod in parliament , clap and cheer at our jokes. Instead if you and I did the same thing probably they would ask the police to arrest us and take us to jail. Why has president Zuma who has taken our money still not wanting to go to court so he can disprove what is happening."
Referring to the findings contained in the Nhleko report which concluded that President Zuma did not need to repay a cent spent on Nkandla, Maimane said it was a mistake of the ANC government to think that the people of South Africa are stupid.
"That report is unconstitutional, it is illegal and it was also put forward by a person who knows that they can't say anything wrong with their boss. To say the President does not owe us anything is a crime against the people of this country. We are simply here to say, President you benefited unduly and therefore you must pay back the money to the people of South Africa." said Maimane.
