A Nigerian national is being charged with attempted murder after pointing a firearm at police officers in Port Elizabeth.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members from Mount Road acted on a tip-off on Tuesday about a possible drug "drop off" in Sydenham.
She says officers spotted the suspect in his silver VW Polo, who sped away when he noticed police.
Naidu says a short chase ensued and police managed to corner him in Voyle and Esselen Avenue. The driver pointed a firearm at police, refused to get out of his vehicle and attempted to flee again.
Police fired a shot into his tyre and made an arrest.
The 34-year-old had a piece of cocaine and two packets of tik in his possession. A replica firearm was also confiscated.
He is expected to appear in court soon.
