Ngcobo police station to be upgraded - EC Safety MEC

Eastern Cape Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana, said the Ngcobo police station would undergo a major upgrade following this week's deadly attack on the station which left five policemen and a retired soldier dead.

Four people have been taken in for questioning in connection with the attack in which gunmen stole ten firearms from the murdered policemen as well as from the safe at the police station.

Speaking to Algoa FM News in Bhisho this morning, Tikana said that there has been a commitment from national police management to improve security at Ngcobo police station.

"The National Minister and the National Commissioner have confirmed that the Ngcobo police station will be upgraded to improve security" at the station.

Tikana, said more resources will also be provided to Ngcobo police station.

Meanwhile, Tikana said that a memorial service will be held for the slain police members next Tuesday.

However, she says funeral dates have yet to be confirmed with the families as the slain members are from different parts of the province.

"We are still visiting the families to confirm the dates for the funerals.  You'll be aware that those families are coming from different areas of the province. So, it means that we cannot have a mass funeral but will give the families to decide on where to bury their loved ones.  But, the first one I'm led to believe will be on the 3rd of March."
