The Newton Park Indoor Swimming Pool in Port Elizabeth is set to re-open for business within the week after being closed for more than a year.
A lengthy dispute over who was responsible for the cost of relaying the tiles at the facility resulted in several top swimming galas having to be moved to other venues while it stood idle.
Repair work was finally completed last week and the pool was handed over to the Metro on Monday.
They started filling it 4pm on Tuesday.
Metro spokesperson Roland Williams says the Olympic size pool holds 3 million litres of water and under normal circumstances would take a week to fill.
However, high pressure hydrants will be used on Wednesday afternoon, and the pool should be full within a couple of days.
