Newly trained police recruits make presence felt

Eastern Cape police said the deployment of newly trained recruits had already strengthened and improved policing in various areas of the province.

Provincial spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, said more than 4 900 recruits successfully completed the programme at the SAPS Basic Training Academies across the country, including Bhisho, which culminated in the passing-out parade on Friday.

She said these newly trained constables will be deployed at police stations throughout the country where they will be performing operational duties for 12 months.

This forms part of practical, in-service training.

Soci said the Eastern Cape welcomed 570 new police officials, who would enhance police visibility and ensure that the presence of the SAPS was felt and seen in all central business districts, holiday destinations, parks and public areas to curb criminal activities.

142 recruits were deployed in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, 40 in Graaff-Reinet, 278 in East London and 110 in Mthatha.

The new Constables were already at hard at work over the past weekend at various shopping malls in the Port Elizabeth area.

The Graaff-Reinet Constables were deployed at various police stations with teams of police officials for police visibility in and around the towns.

East London, Mthatha, Uitenhage and Queenstown deployments resumed duty on Monday at malls and shopping areas in these policing areas.
