New Nelson Mandela University logo leads to a stir on social media

Social media users are seemingly rejecting the new logo of the re-branded and renamed Nelson Mandela University, which has it's main campus in Port Elizabeth.

The university was renamed this week and it's new logo depicts a circle and triangle in yellow, on a black background.

In the printed name, the circle replaces the "O" in Nelson while the triangle takes the place of the "A" in Mandela.

Very few students and former students seem to identify with it, with negative, sarcastic and funny comments abound on the Internet.

One person commented on NMU's official Facebook page, that they will tackle more difficult shapes than the circle and triangle in the next semester.

A variety of humorous memes and pictures are also doing the rounds online, along with emoticons laughing at the new branding.

Another, more serious, comment is that NMU management must please listen to the voices and that a better logo is needed, or the previous one must be retained.

Others say whatever the design, it will always be criticised by some and that the community will eventually get used to it.
