East London police are investigating a case of child neglect, after a 41-year old woman was allegedly seen trying to drown her 11-day old baby in a toilet.
Spokesperson, Captain. Stephen Marais says community members saw the women at Orient Plaza, and informed the police.
He says the suspect was apparently under the influence of alcohol, when they found her with the wet baby on her lap.
Marais says the child has been taken to a place of safety, and the woman was put behind bars.
