The South African Police Service in the Eastern Cape welcomed the newly appointed Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Lillian Mene in Qonce (KWT) on Monday.
Lieutenant-General Mene has been appointed to the top post following the departure of the former Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga to Head Office in Pretoria.
Provincial Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said Mene was introduced in a formal ceremony by her predecessor and Transport and Community Safety MEC Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe at SAPS provincial headquarters in Zwelitsha.
Meanwhile, in an address, the new Provincial Commissioner emphasised the significance of the National Police Commissioner's turnaround strategy which she indicated was one of the most critical blueprints in waging an effective fight against crime with the communities.
According to a SAPS statement, Mene urged her management to "journey with her during the five-year marathon against crime in the Eastern Cape."
"She made it clear that her sights a particularly set on the identified national pandemic of Gender-Based Violence and femicide, gangsterism, corruption and other prevalent crimes in every sphere of the society."
