Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane will unveil a new cannabis investment at the Coega Special Economic Zone.
Monday's expected announcement will introduce Medigrow to the SEZ, where they intend to set up an indoor cannabis grow and processing plant.
Mabuyane will be joined by the MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Nonkqubela Pieters.
The spokesperson for the Department, Mvusiwekaya Sicwetsha said the company was established in 2017 and has 14 cannabis-cultivating farms across South Africa.
He said they have signed an agreement with Coega to establish an indoor medicinal cannabis grow, processing, and packaging, cigarette manufacturing business designed for the export market.
"During the announcement government and Medigrow will announce their financial investment in this cannabis and hemp development, available opportunities for farmers, research, and development programs to be rolled out as part of this new investment," said Sicwetsha.
He adds that this investment showed the work done by the Provincial Government to promote the Eastern Cape as the cannabis hub as Mabuyane stated in the 2019 State of the Province Address.
