New Buffalo City Executive Mayor Alfred Mtsi says one of his top priorities is to restore residents' confidence in the city of East London.
Mtsi was a member of the Provincial Legislature before assuming the post of Mayor on Thursday morning.
He was sworn in at a special council meeting along with his new deputy Xola Phakathi.
Mtsi told AlgoaFM News that unemployment was one of the major challenges being faced by the Buffalo City Metro.
He said, however, that there was massive potential because of the prevalance of industry and the presence of a bustling port in East London.
Mtsi fells that the best way forward will be to consolidate the support of all relevant stake holders to address the common challenge of unemployment.
The new Mayor said service delivery and the general cleanliness of Buffalo City was lacking and would be receiving his urgent attention. He added that the current financial year concludes at the end of June and that the new budget from July will be a critical long-term issue.
