Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has finally appointed a new municipal manager, several years after the post became vacant.
Council voted unanimously on Thursday on the appointment of Dr Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela as the new municipal manager.
The mayor's office said Dr Msengana-Ndlela comes "with an impressive track record in the public service having worked as the Director-General for the Department of Local Government between 2002 and 2009."
"During her tenure as the head of the Department of local Government, she achieved a succession of unqualified audit opinions from the Auditor-General. She brings a wealth of experience on administration and management systems in the public sector", said Mayor Wayile.
DA caucus leader in Council, Leon de Villiers, says he's relieved that a municipal manager has been appointed.
"I certainly believe that Council has at last appointed the better of all the candidates that were shortlisted. We very comfortable with that. I just sincerely hope that there is no legal challenge that the procedure of the appointment has not been illegal," he said.
In another development Council accepted the resignation of Feziwe Sibeko and appointed Joy Searle as the new Chief Whip of Council.
