Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium turns 10

The Mandela Bay Development Agency has committed to reducing the cost of ownership in running the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.

Those were the words of agency CEO, Ashraf Adam, at the Stadiums 10th-year celebrations hosted in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

Adam said the plan amongst others, is for the stadium which operates at between 40 and 50 million rands per annum to eventually generate its own electricity which will reduce operating costs going forward.

He said looking back at the past 10 years, they are proud of the growth the multi-purpose facility has shown.

"We have put a big effort into non-bowling event's, which includes hosting conferences, providing exhibitions space, but also in generally managing the facility a lot more efficiently."

Adam added that they look forward to witnessing the growth in the coming 10 years.

"We look forward to hosting more quality matches here, providing good entertainment for the residents of the city and as well as increasing other activities in the venue like the sports museum."
