Nelson Mandela Bay's IPTS boss resigns

Nelson Mandela Bay City Manager, Mpilo Mbambisa has confirmed that he has received a letter of resignation from Integrated Public Transport System boss, Advocate Mhleli Tshamase.

Mbambisa was responding to questions from the media, following a media briefing with the South African Local Government Association and political leadership of Nelson Mandela Bay on Wednesday.

The former IPTS boss and a senior finance official Nadia Gerwel were given notices with intent for suspension last week.

"Let me first indicate Nadia and Advocate Tshamase are not section 56 managers, I need to clear that. In terms of the collective agreement which they fall under, employees are given up to 48 hours to make their representations when you send a letter with intention to suspend." says Mbambisa.

Meanwhile, SALGA has convened an engagement with the political leadership of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Executive Mayor Danny Jordaan has appealed to SALGA  to provide its support and advice in some areas that would assist the metro to speed up service delivery to residents.

Speaking at a media briefing, Jordaan outlined different interventions that had been put in place to turn the municipality around.

He said interventions related to public engagements , issues relating to infrastructure and dealing with high energy usage.

Jordaan said the mood of the city had changed in a short space of time, and there was an indication of new outside investors.

"Ultimately the restoration of dignity and people taking care of their own lives is dependent on us growing the economy and creating jobs. We had a meeting with investors a week ago, while sitting in this meeting we had another indication of people wanting to come to this city to invest. So in a short space of time I think the mood has changed and if we didn't notice inside the city, people outside the city have noticed." says Jordaan.
