Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality gearing up for a bumper Summer Season!

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is preparing for a bumper Summer Season with activities galore scheduled to take place from middle December until the end of January, said Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive, Mayor Athol Trollip at a Media Launch on Thursday.

“For the first time I am staying in Nelson Mandela Bay for the holiday season.  I am going to encourage my family and friends to come and I want you to do the same,” Mayor Trollip said.

With Spar as a major Sponsor this year, the municipality’s flagship Opening of the Season, taking place on 16 December at Hobie Beach, will once again be a major attraction and signal the beginning of a fun-filled programme.

“We really are delighted to be part of this year’s Summer Season Programme, themed Delight in Summer, and look forward to a long term relationship with the Municipality,” said Conrad Isaac, Managing Director at Spar Eastern Cape.

Activities galore, follows the opening, ranging from the Springs Fiesta in Uitenhage, the Sizzling Session at the Tramways Building; the Cinema and Christmas Carols at Happy Valley and The Sundowner at Hobie Beach.

“We want safety on our beaches, and to create an atmosphere where memories are made, said Cllr Siyasanga Sijadu, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.

The Ebubeleni Music Festival will once again be one of our signature events at Scribante Race Course.

“We will not tolerate any driving under the influence of substances or drinking on our beaches that leads to broken bottles. We will be vigilant and strictly enforce the law,” sounded Cllr John Best, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security a warning.

Residents can look forward to the New Year’s Eve Celebrations at both Hobie Beach and Wells Estate to usher in another year of promise and hope.

“Let us look after guests as if they are visitors in our homes. If we look after them they will stay longer and may even end up sending their kids to our schools,” added Mayor Trollip.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture, Cllr Andrew Whitfield, encouraged residents to all be ambassadors for the city.

“Let us put our best foot forward this holiday season,” said Whitfield.
