With heavy traffic expected on Eastern Cape roads over the Easter weekend, the Port Alfred Cluster continues to keep a close eye on motorists.
On Wednesday, while Cluster Commander Brigadier Morgan Govender was returning from a management meeting in East London, he noticed a bronze Ford Ranger driving very fast and in a reckless manner on the R72 towards Port Alfred.
All emergency services on the coast were notified.
At the Fish River Bridge he managed to stop the vehicle and as her rights were being explained to her she sped off.
Brigadier Govender's wife, Captain Mali Govender reports, that with blue lights flashing, attempts to stop the vehicle was futile.
The high-speed chase continued for over 45 minutes until the Port Alfred police who set up a vehicle checkpoint assisted in stopping the vehicle.
A 53-year-old woman was arrested and faces several charges in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act including reckless and negligent driving.
