ANC secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe, says there's been no special request for the party's national executive committee to intervene in Nelson Mandela Bay.
This follows reported tensions between newly appointed mayor, Benson Fihla and municipal manager, Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela.
She recently wrote to Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, complaining about gross interference by the mayor and his deputy in the management of municipal processes.
The Herald reports that the Metro leadership had been summoned to provincial headquarters yesterday to discuss the impasse.
But, Mantashe reiterated that no direct intervention is being considered.
"Again we have read about this tension. We are going to go to the Nelson Mandela Metro as a matter of cause as we do our work. We are going to all 9 provinces to consolidate our work at local government but there is no special invitation to the Nelson Mandela Metro to go and intervene," he said.
