A National task team will be in the Eastern Cape on Thursday to be briefed on the ongoing issues around security at St Albans Prison outside Port Elizabeth.
The team has been appointed by the Department of Correctional Services, Acting National Commissioner, Zach Modise.
A meeting between the department, Popcru and other stakeholders also gets underway on Wednesday to address problems at St Albans where two prison warders were stabbed in separate incidents earlier this week.
Correctional Services Regional Commissioner, Nkosinathi Breakfast, says gangsterism and criminality are behind the attacks on prison officials.
He says the meeting is all about taking measures to protect officials at St Albans.
"On Thursday there's a national task team appointment by the Acting National Commissioner to come and be briefed by myself and also to see what we can do with the issue of security at St Albans." says Breakfast.
