Narrow escape for Cat Care PE co founder

The Co-founder of Cat Rescue-PE had a narrow escape today when she was shot in the stomach by a suspect who attempted to rob her while she was working in the Northern Areas.

Erica Wieffering told AlgoaFM News that her partner Karen Theron was shot while they were dropping off cats in Bethelsdorp at lunch time.

Wieffering said Theron was sitting alone in the car with the door open when five armed suspects approached her and demanded phones and jewellery.

She said Theron reached for her own weapon and as she was about to draw it - the suspects fled.

Wieffering said one of the men turned around and fired a shot as he ran down the road.

The bullet went through the car door and struck Theron in the abdomen.

She was rushed to Greenacres Hospital where she is currently being treated.

Wieffering said the car door slowed the bullet and Theron was not severely injured.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu said police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
