The Cacadu District Municipality will undergo a name change.
As from the First of September it will be known as the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Executive Mayor, Eunice Kekana, said the name change is in line with a decision taken in 2012 to give recognition to the icon and the role of the coloured people in the fight against apartheid.
She says a lengthy stakeholder consultation process was undertaken before the application for the name change was submitted to the Eastern Cape MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs.
