N2 speedster was 'test driving' Merc before fleeing accident scene

A  man who is under investigation for two counts of reckless and negligent driving on the N-2 between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, had been test driving a new Mercedes Benz C-Class when he allegedly crashed the vehicle outside Grahamstown on Tuesday afternoon.

Its also understood that a company driver had been with him at the time and may have been seriously injured in the crash.

Earlier police said that the driver of the Mercedes Benz had collided with a car near Nanaga, causing it to go out of control.

A woman and her daughter were reportedly injured.

Its further alleged that the driver had hit another car near Seven Fountains, after which the Mercedes Benz went out of control and overturned.

Police spokesperson, Captain John Fobian, has the latest developments on the case.

"It appears that the driver fled the scene last night and left a passenger in the vehicle seriously injured. We have established further that this morning the alleged driver booked himself into a hospital in Grahamstown for treatment. We have opened two reckless and negligent driving cases and may open further cases depending on the development of the investigation" he said
