Six people were killed in a head-on collision on the N2 between Idutywa and Mthatha on Sunday.
A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Unathi Binqose says a Toyota Fortuner and Ford Kuga collided head-on in rainy conditions shortly before 5 pm.
He says the Fortuner had six occupants of which one died, while all five people in the Kuga died on the scene.
Binqose says the death toll could rise and a case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
Drunk Driving
Binqose says that from the first to the 30th of December, a total of 461 motorists have been arrested for drunk driving.
He says on the 30th alone, 63 drivers were nabbed across the province.
The Department says with New Year Celebrations on the way, sadly these numbers will climb as people continue to drive drunk.
