Mthatha was the murder capital of the Eastern Cape last year with 145 incidents in that precinct.
Lusikisiki was second with 109 murders according to the Annual Performance Plan for 2014/15 of the Department of Safety and Liaison.
Metrominute reports that Mthatha was also the Eastern Cape precinct with the highest total number of crimes with 8473 last year, followed by East London (8 243); Mount Road in Port Elizabeth (7 382); Cambridge in East London (6 636) and Humewood in Port Elizabeth (5 924).
Six of the top 10 worst precincts in 2013 for drug-related crimes were in Nelson Mandela Bay, with the Kamesh precinct the worst with 699, followed by Gelvandale (560); KwaNobuhle (506); Mount Road (475); Motherwell (376) and Bethelsdorp (342).
New Brighton was the “murder capital” of Nelson Mandela Bay last year with 79 murders followed by KwaZakhele with 71 and Bethelsdorp with 67.
