A Sergeant attached to the Kamesh police station, who has been charged with murder, will be detained in a single cell at the St. Albans prison, pending the finalisation of his bail application.
Sergeant Rudy Arends was the third suspect to be arrested by the Hawks last week, in connection with the murder of Raul Damons.
Arends also faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The 31-year-old Damons was shot and killed at his house in Strelitzia Park in December last year.
During Arend's appearance in the Kariega Magistrates Court on Tuesday, defence attorney George Malgas indicated that they were not ready to proceed with a formal bail application.
According to Malgas there was certain information that they first needed to verify.
He did not elaborate on what information needed to be verified.
The court ordered that Arends be detained in a single cell at the St. Albans Correctional Centre, pending the finalisation of his bail application.
The defence had previously informed the court that Arends, due to the nature of his job, feared for his life in prison.
Arend's co-accused are Clinton Minnies and Deilon Makoppa, who were not present in court on Tuesday.
Minnies and Makoppa were arrested in January and September respectively.
Police had earlier indicated that the deceased (Damons) was arrested with four other suspects in February 2020 when they were found in possession of alleged stolen VW Polo car parts worth over a million Rand.
Damons was granted bail of R10 000.
The case against Arends was postponed to 4 December, for a formal bail application to be conducted.
