A man accused of murdering his girlfriend caused a stir in the Gqeberha High Court on Tuesday when he told a judge that he won't be around on his next postponement date because he intends to commit suicide.
Gravin Bitterhout, 39, informed Judge Avinash Govindjee of his intentions upon hearing that the case would be postponed to February next year.
He substantiated his claim by stating that he had brought his blade with him from prison.
He reached into his clothing, but court ordelies promptly escort him to the police holding cells.
The state alleges that Bitterhout stabbed Geronicha Hendricks on 28 January in Thamboville, in Kariega.
The deceased applied for a protection order against the accused two weeks prior to the stabbing.
Bitterhout has also been charged with the contravention of a protection order.
