A total of 220 families in Kuyga have had their dignity restored as they were handed title deeds for their low cost housing by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Wednesday.
This formed part of the municipality's consolidated effort in restoring people's dignity as the housing beneficiary list, has over the years, been rigged with fraudulent activities.
Speaking at the handover, Executive Mayor Athol Trollip emphasised the importance of restoring people's dignity through an open process of title deeds handover.
The Mayor also commended ward councillors for their role in ensuring that the rightful RDP homeowners received their title deeds.
"A title deed removes all the complexities that come with living in a house where ownership is often a cause for conflict. Our intention is to handover the house, key and title deed to our people so that the rightful owner can live peacefully, be able to maintain their own home and enjoy the freedom of ownership," Trollip said.
One of the recipients, Benjamin Windvogel, who has lived in Greenbushes for 39 years, spoke about his near eight year wait to rightfully own his house.
Windvogel said he was happy and was filled with pride because he could leave something for his children when he died.
