Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane has congratulated and thanked manufacturing giant Dräger Safety Zenith (Pty) Ltd for investing in the East London IDZ and the region.
Mabuyane officially unveiled the new plant on Wednesday.
The R135 million facility will manufacture safety and medical equipment for international export and for domestic use and has created 96 new jobs in the province.
"From today onwards, 96 people will call this factory their place of employment, that number might seem small to some but their lives will drastically change for the better," said Mabuyane.
Economic Development MEC Mlungisi Mvoko gave the assurance that investment promotion and attraction remain a priority of his department as one of the shareholders in the IDZ.
"This is a world-class special economic zone with reliable infrastructure and the opportunity that Dräger brings will go a long way in growing the province's economy," he said.
IDZ CEO Simphiwe Kondlo said they were excited to be opening a world-class company's facility on their platform.
"We are excited to be a home to this multinational company that has a long history of world-class manufacturing," said Kondlo.
