Multi-billion rand injection from Eastern Cape windfarms

The Department of Energy will sign implementation and direct agreements with five more wind energy facilities in the Eastern Cape on Monday.

Metrominute reports that Eskom will also sign power-purchase agreements with them, capping off a combined investment of R65b.

In terms of the agreement with the wind farm developers, 36.7% or R3.17b of the investment must fall into the category of local content.

The five projects in the Eastern Cape are part of the seven, totaling 562.5MW that were successful bidders in Window Two of the Department's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer’s Procurement Programme.

The agreements will go a long way to cementing the Eastern Cape as a green energy hub.
