Police Minister Nathi Mthetwa paid a visit to the family of a four-year-old boy who became one of the recent statistics in ongoing gang violence in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Earlier, Mthethwa was locked in a meeting with senior provincal and local police management to assess the impact of police operations in the wake of the escalation of gang violence which has claimed as many as 11 lives in recent weeks.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Mthetwa said he was here to "assess the situation after a concentrated deployment of different police units" in gang-infested areas.
"Our major aim at this moment is to stabilise the area so that there are no further fatalities," Mthetwa said.
He also revealed that police have identified five kingpins in the ongoing violence saying police will continue to "saturate" areas where gangs are operating.
Later on Thursday Mthetwa visited the Helenvale home of Lucille Pieterse, who's four year old son, Luciando, became one of the youngest victims of the violence.
He died in hospital after being caught in the cross-fire of a gang-related shooting last week.
