A 62 year-old traffic officer from the King Sabatha Dalindyebo local municipality was shot and killed while on duty in the Mthatha CBD on Monday afternoon.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says that shortly after midday, traffic officer Daniel Mxoli stopped a silver grey Toyota Tazz.
She says there was an argument between officer Mxoli and the driver of the vehicle after which the suspect drove off and parked nearby.
Colonel Naidu says the driver of the vehicle then approached the traffic officer and shot him twice before fleeing in his car.
A case of murder is under investigation and the shooter is still at large.
