Eastern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga, has expressed her shock and dismay at the brutal killing of five family members at Phepheni Location, Mount Ayliff, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says a group of unidentified suspects arrived at the homestead at around 01h00 and called on one of the family members to come outside.
The 55-year-old victim was then attacked and stabbed to death.
Brigadier Kinana says the suspects proceeded to burn down the homestead with four family members still inside.
The victims who burnt to death included a 12-year-old child.
The motive for the killings has not yet been established and cases of murder and arson are being investigated.
Lieutenant General Ntshinga has ordered the establishment of an integrated Task Team to ensure that the killers are caught and brought to justice.
