Motorist hijacked and shoved in boot - six teenagers arrested

Six teenagers from Gqeberha are expected to re-appear in the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Thursday on charges of kidnapping and hijacking.

Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the six young men allegedly hijacked the driver of a Suzuki Swift two weeks ago near the Red Location.

She says on Saturday the 17th of September at approximately 11 pm, the complainant was driving in Mandela Street, New Brighton when two males were standing in the road.

"As the complainant slowed down, one male approached his driver-side door and opened it. They pointed the complainant with a firearm" she said.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says hours later when the suspects stopped at a petrol station the complainant managed to escape.

She says police managed to arrest all six suspects within 48 hours.

The suspects aged between 18 and 19 have been in custody since their arrests on the 18th and 19th of September.
