Motorbikes and top-end bicycles are once again being targeted in Nelson Mandela Bay with more than 11 cases reported across the Metro since January this year.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the hotspot areas are in Humewood, Mount Road, Walmer and Kabega Park.
She’s urged owners to take extra precautionary measures to safeguard their property and says police suspect that there is a syndicate operating in the area.
Colonel Naidu says the thieves gain entry into properties by lifting automated gates off their railings.
They then simply push the bikes out of the yard, load them onto a trailer or back of a bakkie, and drive away.
The value of the bikes stolen range between R110 000 and R150 000.
Earlier this month, seven valuable mountain bikes, worth a combined R400 000, were stolen at Action Cycles in Heugh Road, Walmer.
