Mossel Bay law enforcement officials have beefed up patrols along the beach after a woman was stabbed and robbed of her cell phone while searching for shells.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies says the victim, Francelle Botes, was with her 12-year-old daughter and two 20-year-old nieces at Diaz Beach, searching for pansy shells when two men started following them.
The four women were on the beach just after 5 am on Friday.
Spies say the men allegedly pulled out knives and stabbed her in the arm.
Botes threw her phone at one of the attackers while one of her nieces threw her phone at the other.
Da Gamaskop police are investigating a robbery case.
The suspects remain at large.
