The foster mother of a five-year-old boy locked in a classroom for the entire weekend in Nxuba, formally, Cradock, wants answers on the matter.
Little Masonwabe Apolis was found dehydrated and unable to speak or explain his harrowing ordeal on Monday.
He was brought to a Gqeberha hospital for intensive treatment.
His concerned foster mother, Disebo Somatamba, told Algoa FM News that she wanted those involved to account while he was recovering in the Dora Nginza Hospital.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, said a missing person's case was opened on Friday when the child did not return home from school.
He said police were informed that the child was later found under dubious circumstances currently under investigation.
Somatamba says while she is grateful for his recovery, she has questions for the school.
She says the family hardly slept a wink at the weekend while the search ensued.
“I want the teacher who was responsible for locking the class, [they] must know what happened to Masonwabe.
“She told me that she was the last person who closed the doors and the last one who left the school on Friday.”
“She even told me that she went to the school on Saturday to look for the boy, but surprisingly [Masonwabe] was found at the school.”
“I want the answers from the teacher and the school as well,” Somatamba added.
Speaking about her son, Somatamba says that she hopes that this matter does not traumatize him further.
She told Algoa FM News that he had been raised in an abusive family before the intervention of the Department of Social Development last year.
She says she hopes that as a family, they could get through this ordeal.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Education Department spokesperson, Mali Mtima, said they were aware of the incident and sent a team to the school to investigate.
