Mother and son in court for PE house robbery

Three people appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday in connection with a house robbery in Summerstrand on Saturday.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says one of the suspects was a 40-year-old woman who was a tenant at the house being robbed.

Sue-Ellen Foxtrot was allegedly fast asleep when an 18-year-old who also lived in the house in Tiran Road was accosted by an unknown man who was armed with a knife.

The woman was tied up and locked in a room while the house was ransacked.

The suspect fled with several household items, including the victim's car.

Naidu says the vehicle had a tracking device which first led them to a property in Kabega Park and later to a house in Rowallen Park.

She says here police arrested three men after all the stolen property was discovered in a room.

Naidu says one of the suspects was Foxtrots' 20-year-old son Warren and his accomplice the 34-year-old Hamish Penny.

A 37-year-old man who was initially arrested was released.

The two men are facing charges of house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property whilst Foxtrot is facing a charge of conspiracy to commit a crime.

They will appear in court again on Thursday for a formal bail application.
