A seal that had to be euthanised after showing aggressive behaviour in Mossel Bay had tested positive for rabies.
The Garden Route SPCA says a member of the public reported an aggressive seal showing unnatural behaviour at a popular swimming place called the Poort on Wednesday.
After assessing the animal's behaviour the decision was made to euthanise it on the spot.
A spokesperson from the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPA) Elize Goosen confirmed the organisation had received an official report that the test for rabies was positive.
She urged the public to remain vigilant regarding wildlife on beaches and to report any strange behaviour from seals.
