Police investigate the death of a Mossel Bay couple who were found dead in their flat in Church Street.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple, 40-year-old Henry Mungelezi and 32-year-old Vaileti Jumbukani, died due to suffocation caused by a gas leak.
Mossel Bay police spokesperson, Pieter Koekemoer said the couple’s employer went to look for them on Monday when they did not arrive for work.
He said the owner of the property had to break a window to gain access to the property.
Koekemoer said Mungelezi and Jumbukani were found lying on a bed in one of the rooms.
He said investigating officers smelled gas when they entered the property.
A portable gas stove that the couple used for cooking was found in the kitchen.
Koekemoer said police also found a black pot, filled with burning wood inside the flat.
An inquest docket has been opened.
